Connecticut alimony amount
Connecticut courts consider income, earning capacity, needs, marriage length, and other statutory factors when deciding alimony.
Connecticut General Statutes §46b-82 directs the Superior Court to consider the evidence presented by each spouse when deciding whether alimony should be awarded and when setting the amount and duration. The factors include marriage length, the causes of the divorce or legal separation, age, health, occupation, income, earning capacity, vocational skills, education, employability, estate, needs, and the property award. [1]
Section 46b-82 does not provide one statewide percentage formula that converts those factors into an alimony amount. This worksheet therefore compares a payment selected by the visitor instead of presenting a court-award estimate.
Connecticut alimony duration
Connecticut law does not use one statewide marriage-length table for alimony duration.
The same §46b-82 factors apply when the court determines duration. If an order entered after a trial or merits hearing will terminate only upon death or the recipient’s remarriage, §46b-82 requires the court to state the basis for that order with specificity. [1]
Connecticut also has a specific prohibition in §46b-82a that can bar temporary or permanent alimony from an injured spouse to a spouse convicted of certain serious crimes against that injured spouse. This calculator explains that rule but does not decide whether it applies to a particular case. [1]

Connecticut §46b-82 lists factors for whether alimony should be awarded and for its amount and duration. It does not provide one statewide percentage formula.
Does marriage length determine Connecticut alimony?
Marriage length is one statutory factor, but Connecticut does not convert marriage length into one statewide alimony-duration table.
