Hawaii spousal support law
Hawaii Revised Statutes §580-47 requires a case-specific review of the spouses’ financial circumstances.
Section 580-47 directs the Family Court to consider financial resources, the requesting spouse’s ability to meet needs independently, marriage duration, marital standard of living, age and health, occupations, vocational skills and employability, needs, child-related responsibilities, the paying spouse’s ability to meet both parties’ needs, the financial condition left by the divorce, and the probable duration of the need. [1]
The statute permits support for an indefinite period or until further order. When support is tied to education or training, the order must allow sufficient time to complete that activity and seek appropriate employment. [1]
Hawaii alimony amount and duration
Hawaii does not publish statewide guidelines for when alimony is ordered, how much is paid, or how long it lasts.
A 2025 Hawaii Judiciary divorce-law presentation states that, when the parties cannot agree, a Family Court judge has wide discretion and that Hawaii has no alimony guidelines governing entitlement, amount, or duration. [2]
Because those decisions are discretionary and fact-specific, this calculator uses a payment selected by the visitor only to compare household budgets. It does not convert income difference or marriage length into a Hawaii award estimate.
